Direct Flights 101: How to get to Barbados

Flying to Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados is easy. Since the late 1940s into early 1950s, the island has enjoyed daily non-stop flights from major cities across the world. Did you know two of these airlines still operate daily flights to Barbados?

In December of 2024, the island will celebrate 75 years of direct flights on Air Canada. And recently, the island celebrated 70 years of daily direct service with British Airways. American Airlines follows closely behind, servicing the island for just short of five decades.

These long-lasting relationships show the industry’s commitment to take you directly to paradise. Therefore, we present to you all Barbados direct flights from major cities.

Barbados Direct Flights from the United States

Our friends based in the United States are fortunate to have a total of 518 direct flights to our destination. The airlines offering these direct flights are American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and United Airlines.

American Airlines flies to Bridgetown from two east coast cities: Miami and Charlotte. Miami International Airport is the hub for the Miami route with three daily direct flights. This airport accounts for the most passengers traveling to Barbados from the entire US.

On the other hand, the Charlotte route flies out of Douglas International Airport. This route will operate daily direct flights from December 5, 2024.

This fall, American Airlines will start two new flights to Bridgetown from New York City and Philadelphia. The flights will depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport. Flights from New York will be daily, while the Philadelphia service will be once weekly.

JetBlue has the second largest market share of flights to Barbados. They offer direct flights from Boston Logan International Airport and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Delta Air Lines operates daily out of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, adding weekly flights from John. F. Kennedy in winter of 2024.

United Kingdom Direct Flights to Barbados

There are several Barbados direct flight options for persons residing or traveling form the UK.

British Airways and Virgin Atlantic offer direct flights to Barbados for passengers based in the United Kingdom.

British Airways flies directly to Barbados from London Heathrow every day, with various flight times available to accommodate your schedule. By winter of 2024-2025, British Airways will double its daily flights to the island. British Airways has also announced its next ‘Avios only’ flight will be to Barbados.

Virgin Atlantic has direct flights from two key hubs, with a schedule of up to 15-times a week direct service. This itinerary includes 11 direct weekly flights from London Heathrow Airport, and four weekly direct flights out of Manchester International Airport.

Notably, Aer Lingus, Norse Atlantic Airways and TUI also feature on the network of UK direct flights. These direct services run during the winter period, with services out of Dublin, London Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester. We will make further updates on these services as we receive more information.

Barbados Direct Flights from Canada

Air Canada and WestJet are the two airline options for travelers looking to fly direct from Canada. Both airlines fly out of Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport year-round with direct services.

Air Canada operates on a daily schedule to Barbados. During the winter, there is an additional four-day a week direct service out of Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. In the summer of 2023, Air Canada chose Barbados as one of its hubs for the Eastern Caribbean.

For those who prefer to travel WestJet, the airline offers Barbados direct flights twice weekly. This service will run twice a week from now until June 23 and September 2 until October 27, 2024. The number of flights will increase to four times a week during two more periods. These periods are June 24 to September 1 and October 28, 2024 to April 27, 2025.

If you are in South America, there are several direct flight options available. Conviasa and COPA Airlines fly out of Caracas, Venezuela and Panama City, Panama respectively. Our Europe-based friends also have a direct flight option out of Frankfurt to Barbados on German airline Condor.

For those looking to island-hop, Barbados has direct flights to neighbouring Caribbean islands on regional airlines. These include Caribbean Airlines, Cayman Airways, InterCaribbean Airways and Surinam Airways, servicing over 10 Caribbean destinations. Some of these destinations include Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Sint Maarten, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, and Trinidad and Tobago.
